So, will Japan get to download the single first?  What else could the registration be for?  I will post more details as soon as they become available.

Buy the physical edition of The King Of Limbs on Amazon.com here.  My latest YouTube video on Radiohead is here.

I also wanted to share this cover of “Lotus Flower” that I found on YouTube.  I also hope to have some more covers from the album here on the site very soon.

New Radiohead article in Rolling Stone…

For those of you who are not yet aware that there was a new article posted of Rolling Stone’s website yesterday that was originally titled, “How Radiohead blew the release of  The King Of Limbs”, then it was switched to “How Radiohead Keep Everybody Guessing”.   Here is part of the article:

“Radiohead released a CD last week, and nobody really cared. You have to admit, that doesn’t happen often. They already released The King of Limbs last month as a digital dump, and got the most baffled reactions of their baffling career. The songs were pretty good — they’re Radiohead songs, you know? — but fans were puzzled by how the whole thing felt like a deliberate non-event. After mastering the art of packaging every new album as a major breakthrough, Radiohead made sure nobody would hear this one as any kind of big deal. It’s like Abed told Jeff on Community: “Everyone else is growing and changing all the time, and that’s not really my jam.

Like many Radiohead fans, I thought they blew it with this album in February by jumping the gun on the download release date, pushing it up from Saturday to Friday without warning. It must have seemed like a very Gaga thing to do, but it really just killed the buzz. Most fans had spent the whole week looking forward to the album, the way we all did with In Rainbows in 2007. Falling out of bed on a Friday morning and finding out the long-awaited global event is over, and you’re already late for a party that started without you, well, that isn’t much fun. No wonder most of the reviews were rushed and impatient first-listen blather, especially since the music was so low-key.”

Then he goes on to compare “Give Up The Ghost” to the Greatful Dead’s “Box Of Rain”.  Personally I can not find any resemblance between the 2 songs.  He also goes onto compare “at least half the songs” to Fine Young Cannibal’s, “She Drives Me Crazy”.  I think one of the best comparison’s I heard for “Give Up The Ghost” was a comparison to the music of Sparklehorse.  Also, I have never seen the show Community so I don’t have much to say as far as that is concerned.

They also go on to say that the band released it the album wrong and they shouldn’t have moved the original download date from Saturday to Friday.  The album did make it to #6 on the Billboard Charts which is not so bad with no more promotion than the album had.

Here is his description of the physical copy:

“They also go out of their way to make the CD itself a totally un-fetishizable piece of product. There’s no bonus tracks or fancy artwork. The album package is so crummy it has to be some kind of statement on consumerism — the cardboard is thin and flimsy, and even the glue is cheap. With my copy, purchased for $11.99 the day of release, the sleeve ripped the first time I took the disc out. All the CD does is sound better, which (I guess) is what CDs are for. I’d hoped hearing the weaker songs in this format would make me like them, but that hasn’t happened yet, “yet” always being a crucial qualifier when talking about Radiohead.”

Cheap glue?  Are you kidding me?  I will be honest I bought the Newspaper Edition of “The King Of Limbs”, and I still bought the physical copy in the store on the day it came out.  I had no issues with the glue, though it would have been nice for it to contain some lyrics or at least a booklet with more info.  Maybe Rolling Stone thinks they should have got to do an interview with the band, or even an advanced copy of the album?  I think Chieftan Mews said it best, when he said, “the album speaks for itself”.  I think the band have a certain way they want to do this.  I also don’t think the band is finished releasing all of the music that accompanies “The King Of Limbs”, we all know that Supercollider/ The Butcher will be released on Saturday for Record Store Day.

Read the Rolling Stone article here.

I also want to make it clear that I am not anti-Rolling Stone or anything like that.  Yes, I also wrote a response to the last Radiohead article that they wrote which did mention this site.  You can read it here, and my response is here.  When I was growing up I had a subscription to Rolling Stone and can remember how exciting it was to receive my copy in the mail.  I also feel that this magazine is often guilty of hyping up certain artists that are already over-hyped in the first place.   Let me know where you guys get all of your music news from in the comments section.  Where do you get your Radiohead news, other artists news, and album reviews?

And here is “Box Of Rain” by The Greatful Dead:

And of course “Give Up The Ghost”

Is the Supercollider/ The Butcher single part of The King Of Limbs?

Here is some interesting information on the new Radiohead single that is set to be released on Record Store Day.  The following was posted by KarmaAndroid on Mortigi Tempo:

Also, guys remember what that person found in the Bloom/album artwork notepad file?

““T I C K 0 0 1 C D 4 P P S L I T P A C K – D E L G A””

Well, look here: http://www.rise-musi…RSD&item=223885

It says “TICK002”

Remember back when someone found the actual tags for the songs on the album and “Bloom” was shown as the 3rd song?

Here they are:

* Other (ISRC Code Track 1): GBU4B1100003 Bloom
* Other (ISRC Code Track 2): GBU4B1100004 Morning Mr Magpie
* Other (ISRC Code Track 3): GBU4B1100005 Little By Little
* Other (ISRC Code Track 4): GBU4B1100006 Feral
* Other (ISRC Code Track 5): GBU4B1100007 Lotus Flower
* Other (ISRC Code Track 6): GBU4B1100008 Codex
* Other (ISRC Code Track 7): GBU4B1100009 Give Up The Ghost
* Other (ISRC Code Track 8): GBU4B1100010 Separator

Here is my original post on this which appeared on March 9th here.

It appears as if the numbers from the single appear to play into The King Of Limbs even though these songs were not on the “record”.  Keep in mind that Radiohead have referred to The King Of Limbs as a “record” and the Newspaper Edition of The King Of Limbs as an “album”  Could Supercollider/ The Butcher be singles from the second part of The King Of Limbs?

Another interesting theory is from James over at Fake Plastic Tunes.  Here is an excerpt from his site:

Also the new single announced for Record Store Day – Supercollider/The Butcher again brings us back to TAMTW artwork. There has been a constant theme with these trees and limbs right from the start. I believe ‘These Are My Twisted Words’ was actually THE SEED to The King of Limbs. It was planted a year and a half ago in Radiohead already anticipating and knowing what they had in store with this Newspaper Album.

Next The King of Limbs comes along and it is that original seed turned into a tree (or the TREE TRUNK). Now we get the announcement of Supercollider/The Butcher and that is THE BRANCHES coming out of that TREE TRUNK. The next question I ask you does a tree have only one or a couple of branches? Nope there are plenty of branches on trees and I believe that is the case with The Newspaper Album. There will also be plenty of Branches (Additional Songs) that will be springing out of this tree.

THE SEED
These Are My Twisted Words (Aug 2009)

TREE TRUNK
The King Of Limbs (Feb 2011)
-Bloom
-Morning Mr Magpie
-Little By Little
-Feral
-Lotus Flower

I highly recommend checking out the full article here.

Though it does not stop there, he has another great article on The King Of Limbs titled “Radiohead – The Puzzle Pieces Theory”, and it discusses the possibility of The Newspaper Edition of the album being some type of paid subscription.

He also discussed the following  picture being a possible clue as well.

Notice how there are 35 eyes in this picture?  That also fits nicely with the Seasonal Theory.  Check out the article here.

Also, check out this video below where they discuss the Seasonal Release method at the 4:30 mark of the video.

The Universal Sigh Japanese edition (photos)

Here is a what the Japanese edition of The Universal Sigh looks like.

Here is some information on the newspaper:

-The JP newspaper DOES have a QR code. It’s in the cover page, bottom left. The code takes you directly to www.theuniversalsigh.jp

-On the lower right part of the cover, the password is written, as well as the names of the 2 Japanese translators.

-The newspaper IS REVERSED, in typical japanese fashion. Unlike the european versions, it flows from right to left.

The image text of the website has absolutely nothing special. It is the same thing as the English version…

The album will be released on april 6, newspaper released on april 9, in specially selected stores, for more details please visit this page soon…and of course, the disclaimer that this was a one-time event, newspaper is different from newspaper album, no radiohead performance, etc.

I searched to see if there was any secret, but nothing in it is different from the English version, except the release date, which was today.

If you go to the website, and you insert the password, you are taken to a Twitter login page.
After logging in, you will see a registration page.

First field is your e-mail address, second field is your Japanese address (written in Japanese, of course),
Third field is your twitter message to the world, forth is the confirmation button.

After filling it, you will appear on the map along with everyone else. I noticed that when I log off from Twitter, my map placement disappeared.

When you check your e-mail, you will have received a thank you message from Hostess Entertainment.

The mail says “thank you for registering, from now on any Radiohead-related information will be delivered here”.

The rest of the message is the standard fare “automated message, please do not reply, if you wish to unregister click here, privacy policy link”… and nothing more.

As for the “online events” thing, it is nothing more than the Twitter fan map. In japanese, the same word can be both plural or singular, so internet translators often mis-translate a singular word as a plural and vice-versa. As far as I know, there is no special online event besides this online map.

The Universal Sigh is released in Japan!

So, today The Universal Sigh is being handed out in Japan. And it appears as if their copy of the newspaper contains some different or additional artwork.  Below is a picture of a fan with her copy of The Universal Sigh.

Remember those codes that were handed out on separate flyers?  This is a quote by someone in Japan that picked up a copy of The Universal Sigh.

“I just got a hold of the Universal Sigh here in Japan, the number of release points is just insane. Certainly more than 70 across the country, although my point only had about 30 or 40 copies.
Most of the texts are translated into Japanese, except artwork and random lyrics.

There is of course the link to www.theuniversalsigh.jp website, and on the bottom of the cover of the newspaper there is a password, which is the exactly the same for every newspaper I saw there. I went to the website, and it asked me for my Twitter account, requested me to indicate my current address and email contact, and write a Twitter message directed at #theuniversalsigh. I did so, and I appeared on a google map embedded on the website, and it shows the location of other radiohead twitter users who got the newspaper, along with their messages. So far, only 20 or 30 people show on the map, but I only got the newspaper 1 hour ago, so it’s early.

I have missed out on the newspaper discussion, did this happen outside of Japan as well?”

Check out this retail display in Japan for The King Of Limbs.

Is this display possibly better than the one in France?

Big thanks to InkyBrown for sending me all of this info.  You might remember her from the Seasonal Release method here, or from making the videos for The Universal Sigh for the blind. Follow her on Twitter here.  Her on her YouTube account here.

Also, check out this video below where they discuss the Seasonal Release method at the 4:30 mark of the video

And it looks like their newspaper is different from ours! Additional art check out the page facing the INFINITY page…

And here is the artwork up close.
