The King Of Limbs Part 2 denied…

So, unless you are living under a rock you have heard the news that Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien denied there being a Part 2 to The King Of Limbs. Here is part of that interview:

Speaking to BBC 6 Music last night guitarist Ed O’Brien ruled out more releases from the band. At least, not from The King Of Limbs sessions. When discussing the two new tracks that will be out on Record Store Day, Ed O’Brien said: “The Butcher is from the King Of Limbs sessions. Supercollider was recorded during that period and finished off after the album came out”. Ed added: “It’s just the way the album is sequenced best” and that “40, 41 minutes is the optimum time we feel for a record”

“There are [other] songs that we have started, that we never finished, but there’s not like seven or eight finished songs waiting in the wings to be released now, or in the autumn, or something. When we start a new record, we tend to start afresh. It’s kind of an evolutionary thing – only the fittest survive.”

This does mark the first time that the band have actually denied there being a Part 2 to The King Of Limbs.  So, after almost 2 months of silence from the band, only 1 post on DAS, The Universal Sigh, Chieftan Mews, and Aporia we get a denial.  Why not deny the rumors 2 months ago when they started? Even The Universal Sigh seemed to contain lyrics that did not appear on The King Of Limbs.  Why was the band silent for so long?  This only fueled the speculation.  I still don’t think there has been an interview with the band about The King Of Limbs.  And, what about that photo of the band standing in front of the 2 trees in the woods taken by Sebastien Edge? The post on the bands label XL Recordings with rumors about a Part 2. Stanley Donwoods recent blog, “We gave out the newspapers, so one secret is out”.  Why were 4 of them raising an arm in that photo?  If they had announced the track-listing when they first announced The King Of Limbs would they have sold as many?  No one has seen the Newspaper Edition yet, so that is hard to say without seeing it. I for one am I still glad I ordered it.

Or, what if there is in fact more music coming?  Would the band announce it on this show?  Probably not, and if Ed would have said anything else to that question it would have in fact ruined any surprises they might have planned.  We know there are a lot of great songs that have not been released yet, so we can look forward to those.  And we should hear Supercollider and The Butcher any time now.
