Stanley Donwood Tweets

Around 5:00am EST this morning (3-18-2011) Stanley Donwood sent out the following message via Twitter:

“ive put a jpg of a new painting here: http://bit.ly/ccyqtH more to come. but the studio is full of spiders and i think rats too. mews=quiet?”

The link takes you to his newest blog on his website:

“For the past year I’ve been working on oil paintings which are attempts to glimpse into the dark forests that crowd the European – my – subconscious. These forests are where all the native folk-tales of the North are born; Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks, Baba Yaga and all the rest; the princess sleeping for a hundred years behind inpenetrable thickets of blackthorn, the delectable cottage that houses an oven for children. This is where the creatures prowl – the goblins and trolls that scutter from tree to tree in the bad woods of our minds. In Northern Europe we are deeply afraid of the forest and what it means; the hero is the one who can cut through the blackthorn, or the woodcutter himself. Perhaps this reflects thousands of years of woodland clearance, fields hewn at great cost from the wilderness, or perhaps long memories of dangerous journeys along dark, rutted, signless tracks, never knowing what lurks in the shadows. It’s only comparatively recently that we have reached a condition of industrial modernity which requires us to protect our forests, to enact laws that forbid anyone from felling them. It’s only recently that we have learned to walk in them for pleasure. We profess to love the woods and forests, but most people, I think, if they found themselves alone in the forest at night would feel a deep sense of unease. I don’t think we are scared of the real menaces that may lie in wait, or even some sort of supernatural event. It’s something much, much older, and much deeper. It’s something without a name.”

Not sure what to make of all of this.  Is Mews being silenced?  “mews=quiet?”

Let me know what you think.

These Are My Twisted Words artwork

The following 2 photos were sent to me by Jamie.  Here is part of the e-mail that I received:

Hey, love the site. I check it every day, keep up the great work. I think one of the most significant and mind-blowing things I’ve seen lately is how the “These Are My Twisted Words” artwork pieces fit together to say The King of Limbs. Great find by the guy who discovered it, however I noticed that a piece was missing, so I put the pieces into the graphic design software. Also, the K and N didn’t look quite right to me and one of the pieces looks like the word “the” but I couldn’t decide which worked better so here’s three different versions.

Thom Yorke, DOOM making a whole record together?

“Masked hip-hop maverick DOOM, previously known as MF Doom, has revealed that he’s working with Burial and Four Tet collaborator Thom Yorke on a new album.

In an interview with 3D World DOOM reveals that he’s “doing some stuff with Thom Yorke… we’re working on some duets, some duet songs and shit. Just like preliminary shit but we’ll probably end up doing a whole record together… he’s cool – he got a lot of ill ass ideas and shit, you know.”

The Radiohead frontman is a longtime DOOM fan and his remix of the trackGazzillion Ear featured as a bonus track on DOOM’s 2009 album Born Like This.”

Interesting Radiohead article from 2009

This story originally appeared on www.guardian.co.uk.  It discusses the possibility that the band leaked their own song (These Are My Twisted Words) back in August of 2009. I wanted to share an interesting quote from long time Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich from the article:

“He says, like, OK, we book in for three days, and at the end of the three days we put two tracks up every week and we do it for six weeks. I mean, it’ll never happen, but that idea of, we put it out even if we don’t know what it is and then, oh dear, it’s out.”

This just adds more evidence to the idea of a “revolutionary release”.  I also remember Thom Yorke saying in an interview that the way the music industry currently worked was broken, or something to that effect.  I will find the interview, or if you can find please send it to me.  Again you can read this full article hereThanks to Matt for leaving this as a comment on the previous post.

Chieftan Mews latest Twiiter Profile Picture

Another thing we need to figure out are some of the things that Chieftan Mews has mentioned.  Remember back on Tuesday he said”

“You cannot do. And you cannot observe. Be more alert! Grab your tar and feathers. The witch hunt is on. Catch me if you can.”

I think “Be more alert” means that we have missed something.

If you have read the last post you will see what was found in the artwork that came with “These Are My Twisted Words”.  I think the next place we must look is in the 8 songs from “The King Of Limbs”  Here is a message that Chieftan Mews sent out on February 15th:

“I’m hidden in your 8-Track”

That was the day after “The King Of Limbs” was announced on Radiohead’s site.  I think if we could reverse the songs and listen to them backwards, I think we might be able to find something.
